Job Summary 

Keyrus is expanding its network of talented professionals to support a growing number of data-driven projects. We’re building a pipeline of experienced consultants who can collaborate with us on both short- and mid-term assignments across a variety of clients and industries.

We are currently seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join our team as a freelance consultant. You will work on impactful projects involving the Azure data stack, helping organisations harness their data to drive smarter decisions.

• Location: Portugal (Some projects might require On-site attendance).
• Engagement: Project-based, paid on a daily rate

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines on the Azure Data Platform, ensuring performance, reliability, and security.
• Transform and model data to support analytics and business intelligence needs, using best practices in ETL/ELT and data architecture.
• Ensure data quality and governance across diverse sources, applying industry standards for security, privacy, and compliance.
• Collaborate with business and technical teams while maintaining a high level of autonomy to drive data solutions from concept to deployment.
• Act as a trusted consultant, capable of independently managing technical deliverables and meeting project deadlines.

Requirements for the role 

• Proven experience with the Azure ecosystem (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, Databricks, Azure Functions, ADLS, etc.) in data engineering roles.
• Expertise in ETL/ELT development, data modelling, and performance optimisation using tools like dbt, Airflow.
• Strong proficiency in SQL and Python (or other programming language).
• Solid understanding of distributed data processing frameworks (e.g., Apache Spark) and cloud storage technologies.
• Strong consulting mindset with the ability to work independently, manage priorities, and deliver high-quality solutions in a client-facing environment.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate business needs into scalable data solutions.
• Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Azure Data Engineer Associate, Databricks Certified Data Engineer, or dbt certifications are a high plus. 
• Fluent in English
• Must be a Portuguese or European citizen or have a work permit for Portugal
